Cell Line Authentication Service

Contaminated and misidentified cell lines are a serious problem in the life sciences community. A cell line becomes misidentified through cross-contamination, mislabeling, or other laboratory errors and thus it no longer corresponds to the original donor and may in fact correspond to an entirely different species, tissue or disease. Consequently, data derived from misidentified cell lines can be misleading or false, and cause confusion in the scientific literature. To address this problem, biomaterial validation is now required by funding agencies and by a number of scientific journals. Additionally, the FDA requires validation of all materials included in investigational new drug (IND) applications.

Our cell line authentication can ensure the quality of your work by providing a DNA fingerprint for each of your cell lines. Our workflow follows the International Cell Line Authentication Committee (ICLAC) standard ASN-002 and our STR report meets the requirements for funding agencies and scientific journals. Simply submit your samples for a fast and cost-effective way to authenticate your cell lines.

Test your cell lines:

  • When you receive a cell line into the laboratory

  • After preparing a cell bank

  • After 10 passages

  • When in doubt

Deliverables:

Your cell line authentication report will contain:

1.     An easy-to-understand STR allele table

2.     Electropherograms that support the allele calls at each locus

3.     A comprehensive interpretation of the results

       4.    A comparison of the cell’s profile against a STR

Required Materials

1. Genomic DNA

25 ng/μl in 50 μl volume, in Eppendorf tubes sealed with parafilm (ice packs).

2. Cell Pellets

Pellet at least 1×10⁶ cells, wash once with PBS, and send on dry ice. We will take care of the rest including RNA isolation (DNA isolation charged separately).

3. Cryopreserved Cells

Please send at least 1×10⁶ cells on dry ice. We will take care of the rest including RNA isolation (DNA isolation charge will apply).

4. Live Cells

We accept live cells as well—please contact us directly for shipping and handling guidance.
